EA has dropped the price of Scrabble for the iPhone and iPod Touch from $9.99 to just $7.99 for a limited time. EA seems to be trying out some things with different pricepoints, it recently dropped the price of Tetris with $2 as well. In Scrabble gamers need to form words with lettered tiles they pulled out of a bag. The number of points you get for a word depends on the placement of your word on the board.

FingerGaming reports that EA’s Scrabble, which they showed off last week during a press demonstration, will only have a local Wi-Fi mode. When Electronic Arts announced the game for Apple’s iPhone many gamers hoped that this addictive board game would have an online multiplayer mode. According to EA it’s Apple’s fault that they can’t put an online mode in Scrabble because they haven’t made this ability yet. Because Apple doesn’t have the ability for online gaming yet developers are using other tools such as Neutron from Exit Games.
European gamers who can’t wait for Scrabble to come out for the iPhone should check out Wordtouch from Spindrift. It feels like a Scrabble game mixed with a puzzle-game. You get a few rows of letters each worth points and you have to make words from the top row only. Use a tile and the game replaces it by the one below it. Clear an entire column and you score extra, clear the whole board and you get even more points. It’s out in the App Store for £2.99.
